Dental Crowns Q & A

When would I need a dental crown?

A dental crown completely covers an existing tooth, restoring its normal shape, size, and function. You may need a dental crown to:

  • Restore a significantly decayed tooth
  • Strengthen and preserve cracked or broken teeth
  • Protect a tooth after a root canal
  • Restore a tooth’s natural shape
  • Cover stained teeth
  • Fill in a gap between teeth
  • Improve the appearance of slightly crooked teeth

You could also get an implant-supported crown to replace a missing tooth.

Will my crown match my existing teeth?

Tucson Premier Smiles pays careful attention to the appearance of your crown. They use advanced digital imaging with the iTero® scanner to ensure your crown is the perfect shape and a precise fit for your mouth.

They work with you to match the color of your existing teeth. And then they have your crown made by a high-quality lab that produces exceptional-looking porcelain crowns.

Porcelain resembles your natural enamel. When it’s tinted to match the surrounding teeth, no one notices the crown. They only see your beautiful teeth.

What is the process for getting a dental crown?

You need to go into the office twice for a dental crown. During the first visit, Tucson Premier Smiles prepares the tooth that’s getting the cap. They remove any decay if necessary, and then they slightly reshape the tooth to be sure the crown fits over the tooth properly.

Once the tooth is prepped, your provider takes a digital scan, creating the 3D image for the lab to use when making the crown.

You wear a temporary crown until the new one is ready. Then you schedule a second visit so your provider can remove the temporary piece and bond the new crown to your tooth.

If you’re replacing a missing tooth with a crown, Tucson Premier Smiles inserts the dental implant during your first visit. Dental implants are small rods that are anchored in your jawbone.

After giving your jaw time to heal, you go back to the office. Your provider simply attaches the new crown to the part of the implant that’s above your gumline.

No matter why you need a dental crown, Tucson Premier Smiles can help. Schedule an appointment by calling the office or booking online today.
